Sit with me a moment. I do not hate the little wretch. I hate what the climb did to him. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum wants stealth, split selves, and Middle-earth shadows. What arrived was a museum of jank with a famous name on the door.

What It Wants To Be

An agile stealth adventure through Mordor and beyond, with Smeagol and Gollum fighting for the wheel. Book-faithful corners. Quiet tragedy. That pitch still sounds good around the fire.

What Works

The idea. The voice of the dual mind. Occasional vistas that remind you why Tolkien still owns the canopy. As a stream night, the failures are comedy gold if the troop is kind.

What Breaks

Listen well. Traversal fights you. Stealth systems wobble. Performance scars were famous for a reason. Ambition without craft becomes a warning tale. Roast the game. Never roast a player who paid for hope.

Who Should Play

Buy used or on deep sale if you collect infamous flops and want Twitch laughter. Everyone else: watch a friend suffer, then climb a better mountain.

STRENGTHS

  • Fascinating dual-personality pitch
  • Occasional Tolkien atmosphere
  • Great so-bad stream fuel
  • Cheap lessons in what not to ship

HONEST COSTS

  • Traversal and stealth often fail
  • Polish problems are legendary
  • Story ambition outruns systems
  • Not a first Middle-earth game
ALPHA VERDICT: 3 of 10. Precious is the meme, not the masterpiece. If you still want the scar for the collection, grab Gollum on Amazon and laugh with the troop on Twitch.
