Get Final Fantasy XVI on AmazonSit with me a moment. Forspoken wanted magic parkour and became a meme about empty fields and dialogue. Final Fantasy XVI wants cinematic battles, Eikons, and Clive's revenge. One of these games knows what the camera is for.
What It Wants To Be
An action RPG about Dominants and city-sized fights, with a straight story instead of an open-world chore list. Square Enix made it. Our filled row is the PS5 disc.
What Works
The big fights commit. Combat is readable, flashy, and much more confident than Forspoken's stumble. The tone stays serious without winking itself to death. If you want spectacle, the canopy delivers.
What Breaks
Listen well. Call it an RPG and then notice the thin party craft, the side content, and the halls between kaiju scenes. It is closer to a character action game with Final Fantasy skin than to Tactics or a job-system epic. The PS5 button is not a PC key.
Who Should Play
Play if Forspoken left you hungry for magic that actually stages a scene, and you like action more than menus. Skip if you need a deep party RPG or you only wanted to laugh at a flop. For the flop, read Forspoken. For the show, stay here.
STRENGTHS
- Set pieces with real staging
- Combat clearer than Forspoken
- A story that commits
- PS5 CTA matches the filled row
HONEST COSTS
- RPG systems are thin
- Side content can sag
- Linear on purpose
- Button is PS5, not PC
