LEXAR NM790 2TB WITH HEATSINK: ROOM FOR GTA VI, AT A 2026 PRICE

7.5 of 10 bananas. Rockstar confirmed on Nov 3 that GTA VI needs up to 212GB of free space, with PS5 pre-loads opening Nov 10. This 2TB Gen4 drive with a heatsink fits the PS5 expansion slot and was sold by Amazon.com at 334.99 dollars, a real fix for the space crunch, at a 2026 memory shortage price.
By the Alpha. Gear review. Updated Nov 4 2026.
Honest note: This is not a hands-on test. I have not installed this drive in a PS5 or measured its speed or heat for this review. I built this verdict from the Amazon listing, Amazon's best seller chart, Rockstar and Sony's GTA VI storage notes as reported by The Verge and PlayStation, Newegg's PS5 storage guide, and public SSD price trackers. If I install one on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Store check, Nov 4 2026: new units on offer, sold and shipped by Amazon.com, at 334.99 dollars. The button goes to the 2TB model with the heatsink. Prices and sellers change, so look before you pay.
Sit with me a moment. The troop has waited years for Leonida. Then on Nov 3, Rockstar said the pre-load needs up to 212GB, and every ape with a full PS5 looked at the storage screen and groaned. On a launch PS5, that is about a third of the space you can use. There are two fixes: delete, or add a drive.
What It Is
The Lexar NM790 is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD on PCIe Gen 4x4. This listing is the 2TB model with a heatsink fitted, which the listing says is compatible with PS5. Lexar lists read speeds up to 7,400MB/s and writes up to 6,500MB/s, with an SLC cache and a single sided design. Sony asks for a PCIe Gen4 x4 drive, recommends reads of 5,500MB/s or faster, and says not to use a drive without a heat sink or heat transfer sheet. Those are maker and Sony claims; I have not tested them.
Why It Is Moving
The trigger is GTA VI. The Verge reported on Nov 3 that Rockstar confirmed the pre-load will need up to 212GB, and PlayStation's GTA VI support page says PS5 pre-loading starts at midnight local time on Nov 10, with the game out Nov 19. Newegg's guide notes that PS5 games cannot be played from USB storage, so a game this size has to live on internal storage or an M.2 drive. On Amazon, this drive sat at number 12 in Best Sellers in Internal Solid State Drives at my Nov 4 check, and the listing showed 1K plus bought in the past month and 4.8 stars from 1,342 ratings. I do not have an earlier capture of that chart, so I cannot show a rank jump; the demand trigger is the confirmed size and the Nov 10 date.
Who It Is For
PS5 owners whose drive is already full of big games and who want GTA VI installed alongside them. A launch PS5 has about 667GB usable, so 2TB more nearly quadruples your room, by Newegg's figures. It also works in a desktop PC with an M.2 slot.
What To Watch Out For
The price, first. SSD prices are high in 2026 because of a memory shortage. On Nov 4, public trackers showed the cheapest 2TB NVMe drives around 228 to 247 dollars, so 334.99 dollars is a premium for Gen4 speed and a heatsink, not a bargain. Second, you may not need it: you can move PS5 games to a cheap USB drive to free space and copy them back later. Third, install takes a screwdriver and a format of the new drive. Finally, the heatsink must fit the PS5 slot; Sony's limit is 11.25mm total thickness, and I have not measured this one.
